STORYTELLING IN MUSIC

Music Tells a Story, Stories Sing a Song

Who am I?

I am Scarlett Yang.

I am the founder of Storytelling in Music.

I tell stories through music, movement, and images.

With the harp’s gentle strings, a dancer’s steps, and the art of modeling, every note and gesture becomes a story.

Who Are We?

At Storytelling in Music, we believe:

Music is more than a combination of melody and technique;

It is a language for telling stories, expressing emotions, and understanding the world.

Led by music educators and early childhood educators, and supported by a vibrant team of young musicians and storytellers, we bring together music and narrative to create a shared space where imagination and expression come alive.

Here, through music and stories, we create meaningful shared moments to connect people through emotion, empathy, and resonance.

The Journey of Story Telling in Music

The idea of Story Telling in Music was born from a heartfelt experience at The Dorset Harp Colony. During this camp, I followed Alix Raspé to a library, where we played the harp and read stories to children. Watching their eyes light up as music and words intertwined deeply moved me.

Inspired by that moment, I dreamed of bringing the same magic to my own neighborhood—creating a space where children can listen, imagine, and feel stories through the sound of the harp, the rhythm of words, and the joy of shared storytelling. Let their imagination soar.

The Mission

The harp is often called the princess of the orchestra — elegant yet distant.
I hope to bring it closer to people, making its healing sound accessible to all through storytelling and shared experiences, to inspire young hearts through music and stories, nurturing imagination, empathy, and a lifelong love for the arts.

Join Our Team

In addition to visiting community organizations and libraries, we send Storytelling in Music recording videos to the TV program at Boston Children’s Hospital, bringing music and stories to children during their hospital stay.

To make these visits and recordings the best they can be, we are looking for people to join our team:

  • Filming & Recording Volunteers: Interested in video filming and recording, or production, with some experience preferred.

  • Youth Musicians: Although Storytelling in Music originated from the fusion of harp music and picture books, we warmly invite youth musicians of other instruments to join us in exploring endless creative possibilities together!

  • Story Readers: Enjoy reading stories to children and sharing warmth through your voice.

Who can join:
Teenagers (13+) and adults who care about children, storytelling, and meaningful creative community work.

If you’d love to use your skills to bring comfort and joy to children, we’d love to hear from you.

Current and Upcoming Events

Looking ahead, we are planning regular library sessions, small community performances, and interactive programs where books, music, and kids’ laughter will always meet. These upcoming events will continue to grow as we build partnerships and invite more families to join us on this creative path.
